September 29, 2015 – The Lagos State House of Assembly today set-up a 15-man panel to screen potential commissioners nominated by Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
The nominees will become commissioners and special advisers when approved by the lawmakers.
The state governor had last week sent 23 names for the post of commissioners and 14 others as special advisers for approval.
In a statement last week, the governor said the nominees will be screened immediately after the Sallah holidays while cleared cabinet members would likely be sworn in to resume the task of governance by Monday, October 5, 2015.”
It however came as a shock to many observers when the House adjourned sitting to Tuesday 13th October, when the committee is expected to submit its report after vetting the list.
Members of the screening committee, as announced by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa during plenary, include the Deputy Speaker, Wasiu Eshinlokun, who is the Chairman, Deputy Majority Leader, Olumuyiwa Jimoh, Deputy Chief Whip, Omotayo Oduntan, Minority Leader, Hakeem Bello and Lanre Ogunyemi.
Other members of the committee are Yinka Ogundimu, Bisi Yusuf, Segun Olulade, Saka Fafunmi, Oladele Adekanye, Olanrewaju Layode, Rotimi Olowo, and Folajimi Mohammed.
Among the names of the proposed commissioners for screening are six ex- cabinet members from the immediate past Governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola which include former commissioner for Agriculture, Gbolahan Lawal, ex-commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, ex-Special Adviser, Central Business District, Folarin Coker, ex- Special Adviser Commerce and Industry, Seye Oladejo, ex-Special Adviser Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson and ex-Special Adviser Rural Development, Babatunde Hunpe.
Others include Yetunde Onabolu, Fela Bank-Olemoh, Akinyemi Ashade, a partner in KPMG, former Managing Director, National Mirror, Steve Ayorinde, Alhaja Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, a pharmacist, Kehinde Joseph and Prof. Ademola Abass, a professor of Law.
Other names include Dr. Akintola Benson, former Special Adviser Political and Legislative Powers Bureau, Dr. Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, Dr. Mohammed Akinkunmi, former member, House of Representatives, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, Dr. Femi Onanuga, CEO of LAMATA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, Arch. Wasiu Anifowoshe, former members of the House of Assembly, Lola Akande Adebimpe Akinsola and Alhaji Musiliu Folami.
Others include Agboola Dabiri, Ganiu Sanni, Anofi Elegushi, Rotimi Ogunleye,, Femi Odubiyi, , Adeniji Kazeem, Adeyemi Labinjo, Toyin Suarau, Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, Deji Tinubu, Mrs. Mudirat Giwanson and former Chairman Ejigbo LCDA, Kehinde Bamigbetan and Wale Oluwo.
