September 12, 2014 – The department of Vehicle Inspection Office, Lagos State came under attack during the week when the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, Commerce and industry charged it to be more civil and avoid unbridled molestation of members of the public in the discharge of their duty.

Speaking at the zonal headquarters of the department in Alausa, Hon. Bisi Yusuf emphasized the need for officials of the unit to change their attitude adding that the committee has received litany of petitions from members of the public complaining about the way they go about their operation.

“The way officials of the VIO stop moving vehicles on the road is very dangerous and not all the offences need to be criminalized with penalty. We are not pleased with complaints and reports from the public that is why we invited all the Heads of the Unit so that they can pass the message across to their subordinates”, he said adding that the committee was in the zonal office neither to intimidate nor to witch-hunt anyone but to correct your wrong doing.

“I want to warn all the officials of V.I.O not to be agent of any insurance company, any vehicle owner is entitled to collect insurance document from any recognized insurance company they like”, he said.

In his contribution Commissioner of Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa warned the officials to desist from collecting bribe from any vehicle owner adding that anyone caught would be sanctioned accordingly.
