August 27, 2014 – Chairman Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Lanre Ogunyemi has called for amendment of the Electoral Act 2010 as a way to halt cross carpeting which has become a trend among politicians.

Ogunyemi who was addressing Lagos State House of Assembly Correspondent described cross-carpeting as disloyalty adding that politicians decamp from one political party to another for personal interest.

The lawmaker who is representing Ojo II condemned the attitude, stressing that disloyalty amounts to nothing but treason.
“If there is a problem within the party, politicians should remain in the party to fight it rather than running away because of ‘Ghana-must-go’. To me, it means you have shunned integrity.”

Ogunyemi therefore maintained that the proposed review of the Electoral Act 2010 should be carefully looked into by the National Assembly so as to deter politicians from such attitude of dumping parties indiscriminately.

He attributed erratic power supply in the country to corruption to failure among successive administration to confront corruption.

According to him, Nigerians are still suffering from inadequate power supply despite the Federal Government’s claim that Power Holding Companies (PHCN) has been sold to private sector, stressing that the distribution companies were ceded to cronies of the government in power which he said did not give room for those genuinely interested in the sector.

“Some people thrive in the failure because of their antecedents; inasmuch as we allow importation of generators into the country, the problem of power supply will persist,” he posited.
