The Senate chambers, with empty seats, a sure indicator for part-time legislature

September 25, 2014 – Lagos State lawmakers have summoned Chairman of Mosan Okunola Local Government Mr. Mafe Abiodun to appear before it for flouting the House resolution on the impending crisis in the Local Government.

Contrary to the resolution made by the House that the status quo should be maintained by councilors, Chairman of the Local Government Mr. Mafe was alleged to have shut down activities of legislators in his local government.

Speaking on the matter, Hon. Olufunmilayo Tejuosho called Mafe’s action as outright disregard for the House, saying that he should have reverted to the House instead of turning the business of the whole council into his personal business.

Hon. Omisore daubed his action as illegal. Hon. Ladi Balogun said democracy is being endangered with this development.

The Speaker of the House Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji said the action is an aberration of the law, stating that Lagos sets the pace and as such will not tolerate illegalities. “We set the pace in Lagos and would not allow any illegalities, nobody should be allowed to contribute to the death of democracy” he said.

The House unanimously agreed that the Council boss, Mr. Mafe Abiodun be bought before it to clear the undesired circumstances.
