Lagos LGs frustrate deliveries of election materials to wards

IKOYI, Lagos, Nigeria – Mixed reaction is trailing the presidential and national assembly election in Lagos, with violence in selected polling station, late and non-arrival of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to polling units.
In Lekki axis monitored by our correspondent, the election was generally peaceful except in Ikate-Elegusi, where thugs arrived and scattered ballot boxes. But those who voted in the two units in the Oba’s palace voted without any incident.
At Unit 23, at Bamidele Eletu, Osapa London, INEC officials were not on the ground at 1;40pm but through spirited efforts by electorates, the INEC officials finally arrived at 1;45 with some items but without the polling booth.
Accreditation however commenced immediately while the INEC staff left to collect the polling booth. But other units in the axis were on at the time out correspondent visited, but with some units overcrowded with many doubting if they will be able to vote before the end of the day.
Many who voted were seen sitting around peacefully waiting for the results to be announced. At Adebayo Doherty by Dowen College on the Island, INEC officials were yet to arrive the unit by 2pm, but most of those around were seen peacefully waiting for INEC officials hoping to vote when officials of the electoral umpire will arrive.
In one of the units in Lagos, a well dressed thug was seen ordering those who will not vote APC to leave the vicinity and that the area belongs to APC.
In some units, the logo of the Labour Party, LP was not in the House of representative and senate ballots, some also said that in the presidential, LP was also absent in some units.
An official of INEC told our correspondent that some of them were frustrated at the Local government areas hence late arrival of materials.
