 Says one male still missing

IKOYI, Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA  has confirmed one person, a male missing after headcount of construction workers at the site of the 7-storey building which collapsed on Wednesday at  Ist Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.

 Providing an update on the situation in Banana Island,  Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said upon arrival at the scene, the agency discovered that the 7-storey building was under construction when it caved in.

“Under inspection”, he said the agency discovered that the building was damaged by mechanical cement mixer truck which drove into the building damaging columns holding the structure in place.

“A head count carried out by the CSO Anthony Ona of the construction site has an adult male unaccounted for”, he said, adding that the whereabout of the male worker remains unknown at the time of filing his report.

He said the operation is ongoing and that the agency excavator and trucks needed for excavation are on site and that he is expecting crane on the site to facilitate the operation.
