Nigeria, April 13, 2016 – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it is committed to improving disaster management through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Michael Akindele disclosed this during a working visit to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in Alausa.
The visit was organized to welcome the newly deployed Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and to also fashion out other areas of collaborations with the Corps in the area of emergency/disaster management.
Akindele noted that the collaboration is in line with the vision of the present administration to improve safety of lives and properties by working with relevant stakeholders such as the Nigeria Security & Civil Defense Corps in crowd control, search and rescue with the use of sniffer dogs during recovery operation at scene of collapsed building.
Akindele noted that one of the major challenges during emergency is the issue of on-lookers who are always in the habit of taking photographs thereby hampering workers from carrying out their duties. He appealed to the Commandant to always assist the agency and other emergency responders on crowd control in this regard.
In his response, the Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Lagos State Command, MrTajudeen Balogun noted that emergency is not peculiar to the state but that Lagos is always a pace centre in almost everything.
He therefore commended the agency and the Lagos State Government in providing adequate and prompts response as well as sustaining intervention in all forms of emergencies and disasters in the State.
He said the Command will maintain a 24 hours relationship and not just be an ordinary stakeholder, but as principal stakeholders through the instrument of the intelligence gathering and deployment of technical support such as sniffer dog for adequate and prompt intervention during emergencies.
