IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has granted the Baale of Lemode town in Ogun State, Chief Ijaola Hezekiah, N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must however be traditional ruler with records of tax payment. The Baale was arraigned before the court by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on one count charge of obtaining money by false pretence before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of a Lagos High Court.
According to the charge, Chief Hezekiah with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N2 million from one Mrs. Adenike Balogun as a payment for the sales of a plot of land at Ijaola Estate.
Under cross examination by the defense counsel, Mr. Egberoungbe, the plaintiff Mrs. Adenike Balogun told the court that it was after she had effected payment into Chief ljaola‘s account and have expended over extra One million, five hundred thousand naira on foundation that she discovered that the community leader was not the owner of the land.
The matter has been adjourned to 24 May, 2018.
