October 13, 2015 – The Lagos State Task Force has commenced the demolition of all illegal structures and shanties erected on road set-back and walkways around markets in the state.

Addressing the press recently during the demolition of more than 95 illegal structures and shanties along railway lines and its environment at Tejuosho, the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Mr. Olubukola Abe, stated that all illegal structures and shanties on road set-back and walkways around markets in Lagos will be removed.

He noted that the illegal structures and shanties erected on road set-backs and walkways had forced pedestrians on to the roads meant for motorists thereby endangering their lives.

While affirming that the State Government would not fold its arms and condone these illegal acts being perpetuated by traders across the State, Abe also warned Local Government officials and market leaders across the State, particularly at Yaba, to desist from collecting illegal fees from traders who displayed their wares indiscriminately on the road-setbacks and walkways.

He added that anyone caught among the market leaders and Local Government officials engaging in such illegal acts would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Environmental Laws of the State.
