September 11, 2015 – Lagos State Government has handed over 49 new transformers to rural communities in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu and Ibeju- Lekki Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of the State as part of the present administration’s effort to fulfil its promise during the inauguration.

Speaking at the occasion, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Jafar Sanuth said the transformers will reduce the challenge of unsteady power supply that is negatively affecting businesses and making life unbearable for the citizens, especially in the rural communities.

He said that the government is commencing with the 49 Transformers, which will be installed and connected to the national grid within the next 2 weeks, while the second phase will involve the procurement and installation of over 50 transformers that would be distributed to rural communities in Epe, Badagry, Ibeju Lekki and Ikorodu.

He added that the connection of the transformers would greatly improve power supply in the communities as well as create enabling environment for job creation and reduce migration from the rural to urban areas.

“This is part of the governor’s pledge at inauguration, to run a government that will implement programmes that will make life more meaningful and better for Lagosians. Today, the State Government is handing over these transformers as a demonstration of our commitment to that pledge”.

“These transformers, when functional, will enhance the economy base of these communities, create employment for the unemployed youth as well as improve the livelihood of those whose businesses depends on regular power supply”, Sanuth said.

In his own remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri thanked the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for the kind gesture, saying that the desire of the governor to fulfil his promises and improve the standard of living of the populace necessitated the need to provide and handover the transformers to the communities.

He therefore implored the community leaders to ensure the judicious use of the transformers and guide them jealously from vandals.
