Security chiefs from Lagos and Ogun States Thursday rose from a strategic meeting in Alausa with a resolution to set up a joint security patrol that would mount surveillance on critical border areas within the two states.
Co-chaired by the Chairman of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Mr. Remi Makanjuola and his Ogun counterpart, Mr. Kayode Aare along with security chiefs, it was discovered that communities in Mowe, Ogun were infested with hardened criminals.
At a session with the journalists, Makanjuola explained the essence of the joint security patrol between the two states was to prevent escalation of crime in the border areas.
“We will continue to meet regularly. This will ensure people are safe; people can move freely and their lives and properties are secured. That is the essence both governments have set up their separate security funds. We have looked at where and which stages we are. We have discussed how we can collaborate with each other.”
Aare acknowledged the significance of the joint security patrol initiative, saying the states can improve cooperation. “We have learnt a lot from how they have been able to establish the Lagos State Security Command and Control Centre.”
