August 24, 2015 – The Chief Matron of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Caroline Oriola has been confirmed dead in her office within the assembly premises.
We gathered that Oriola drove into the complex on Saturday, 22 August and breezed into her office allegedly to obtain drugs apparently to take care of her ill health.
Her dead body was however discovered on Monday morning, 24th August by a cleaner, who had entered the clinic to clean it up. She was found dead on her seat with the cooling system switched on.
Security men on duty were oblivious of her presence in the office even though she signed in before she picked the keys to the clinic at the weekend.
When our correspondent visited, the assembly complex was in a state of deep mourning as staff gathered in group discussing her sudden demise.
“It is indeed a sad news, nobody expected that she would die, when she did. We were told that she was in the clinic to pick some drugs only for her dead body to be found on the floor by a cleaner,” one of the staff told our reporter.
A source in the assembly disclosed that Oriola’s husband, who had waited endlessly for her to return home, had gone to check her in the assembly, but that he could not find her car in the car park, adding that he was unaware that she parked at the lawmakers’ car park in the assembly.
The body of the deceased was later conveyed to the morgue in the early hours of Monday August 24 with the assembly ambulance accompanied by some staff of the House led by the Clerk, Mr. Segun Abiru.
