IKORODU CITY were left wondering what might have been as a spirited Kun Khalifat side fought back to claim a pulsating 2-2 draw, throwing a massive spanner in the works for the Lagos-based “Oga Boys.”

In a match that had more twists than a British soap opera, it was the stars of both sides who shone brightest under the intense Nigerian sun. The visitors, sitting pretty near the top of the table, looked set for another professional job on the road, but they hadn’t reckoned with the sheer grit of the Pride of Imo.

The drama kicked off early when the hosts found an opening, but the class of Ikorodu’s Joseph Arumala soon told. The midfield maestro, who has been the heartbeat of the City side all season, pulled his team level in the 24th minute with a strike that silenced the home crowd.

TEN-MAN TORTURE
When Temitope Folarin put Ikorodu ahead shortly after the break, the script seemed written. Folarin, a constant menace to the Khalifat backline, showed exactly why he’s being touted for big things with a clinical finish that had the traveling fans in raptures.

But the NPFL never does things the easy way. Ikorodu were forced to see out the final stages with just ten men, and the pressure eventually told.

STARRY SURPRISE
With the clock ticking into stoppage time and Ikorodu’s ten heroes exhausted, Kun Khalifat’s Uchechukwu Onuoha turned into the ultimate party pooper. He popped up in the box to smash home a dramatic equalizer, sending the Dan Anyiam Stadium into absolute bedlam.

For Ikorodu City, it’s two points dropped in their pursuit of the title-chasing pack. For Kun Khalifat, it’s a massive result that proves they can go toe-to-toe with the league’s heavyweights.

One thing is for sure: if you want goals and late-night drama, the NPFL is the place to find it.
