Student holiday workers queue up for their stipend at Public Service Office, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos

September 26, 2014 – The Lagos State Government has spent not less than N100 million on students who were engaged on a temporary basis in the state civil service.

A source at the Lagos State Public Service told our correspondent that 5000 students were engaged during the holiday for the month of August and September.

The students who gathered in large numbers at the Public Service Office (PSO) on Friday were paid stipends of N10,000 per month for the two months that they were engaged by the state government.

We gathered that the students who are in secondary schools and some higher institutions in Lagos worked during those two months in the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas.

The holiday job for students in Lagos State is one of the programmes of the Babatunde Fashola administration.

We gathered that beyond putting stipends into the hands of the lucky students, it is also meant to keep them abreast of the inner workings of the civil service in Lagos State.
