LAGOS — A solitary motor vehicle accident on the busy Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road on Wednesday morning left three persons with varying degrees of injuries after a grey Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration nos LSD 554 KV collided with a roadside utility pole and flipped on its roof.

The incident, which occurred along the corridor leading inward toward Eko Hotel and Suites in the Victoria Island axis of the state, sparked a swift multi-agency emergency response to secure the scene and ensure prompt medical treatment for the victims.

According to preliminary reports and eyewitness accounts, the luxury SUV was traveling along the stretch when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The automobile veered off its lane, collided forcefully with a light pole by the roadside, and overturned, leaving the vehicle severely damaged with its wheels facing upwards.

The Coastal Road infrastructure, which serves as a major arterial link connecting strategic commercial centers across Victoria Island and Eti-Osa, has seen an increase in traffic density as vehicular movement ramps up across the metropolis.

Traffic safety experts and LASTMA officials have frequently urged motorists to exercise maximum caution, adhere strictly to speed limits, and maintain high concentration levels behind the wheel, particularly along high-speed coastal corridors.

Factors such as speeding, early-morning driver fatigue, and mechanical failures remain leading causes of solitary vehicle accidents across Lagos highways.

The timing of the crash coincided with public celebrations marking Nigeria’s Independence Day and the entry into a new month, a period typically characterized by increased mobility across the commercial capital.

Traffic authorities used the occasion to reiterate their appeal to road users to refrain from reckless driving and ensure their vehicles are in optimal mechanical condition before embarking on trips.

As of the time of reporting, emergency crews have successfully towed the damaged Lexus SUV off the highway, and normal traffic movement inward Eko Hotel has fully resumed. Investigations into the exact cause of the vehicle’s loss of control are currently ongoing by the police.
