April 25, 2015 – The Lagos State Government said it has flagged off a project that would accommodate 13 families under one single roof on the Lagos Island.

The project is an 11 floor complex situated on approximately 2, 500 square meters  of land and shares boundaries with Princess Street,  Isale Gangan, Agbede, Binuyo and Onola street.

Commissioner for Physical Planning, Mr. Toyin Ayinde made the revelation at a press conference in Lagos. He said that the project is the first major urban regeneration project in attempt to revitalize a dying area of the city.

“The area was characterized by small land holdings vested in families who held to their individual substandard plots which couldn’t on their own be used for any meaningful development. There were thirteen families  with such limited land holdings that were encouraged to pool  their individual family holdings together to support a meaningful and sustainable  development that is in consonance with global best practice”, he said.

Ayinde explained that  the project was conceptualized with 11th floor structure with  48 service luxury apartment adding that the 6th floor  was voided and exclusively reserved for the communal use of the participating families and that the participating families would be resettled to the building after completion.

He said that the project is 76 percent completed and that it is possible to complete it before end of year.

“The success of this scheme has indeed  paved way for a second project in that vicinity known as Isalegangan Phase II which has  been passed by procurement and  it is due to commence before end of second quarter this year”, the commissioner said.

He said the state government is also planning Adeniji Adele Extension, adding that under the plan, the entire area would see emergence of 120 blocks of 2 and 3 bedroom flats and that each block  would have six dwelling  units spread over an area of about 15 hectares.

He said the plan which incorporates modern facilities is awaiting approval for procurement.
