LAGOS, Nigeria – The Labour Party in Lagos State has indicted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for the orgy of violence unleashed on Obidients, the supporters of Peter Obi on their way to the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, venue of the mother of all rallies in Lagos.

Dozens of Obidients were injured and several cars damaged when thugs loyal to Olatunji led faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC), attacked them in the vehicle conveying them to TBS.

The thugs, according to the Chairman of LP, Lagos, Dayo Ekong, barricaded roads with buses at Lekki and on the Third Mainland bridge in the presence of policemen.

She said members of the Peter Obi movement who were coming from Lekki, were attacked at Jakande and Chevron,  those coming from Ajegunle were attacked at Ajeromi, while those coming from Ikorodu and Alaba market were attacked at Adeniji Adele axis without interference from police.

Dayo Ekong, who was speaking on Arise TV said the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is culpable, hence 48 hours after the daylight attacks, the Lagos State Governor has not issued any statement condemning the orgy of violence besides the statement issued by the Lagos State command of the Nigeria Police confirming the Lekki attacks and that they are investigating the incidents.

She said property destroyed runs into millions and that most of those injured are  still in the hospital undergoing treatment.

“Sanwo-Olu did not come out to condemn it. He is yet to speak on the issue. He didn’t come out for debate yesterday”, she said, adding that a win in Lagos is victory in the right sense, adding that if APC is sure of victory, there will be no need for these attacks.

“If APC is sure of victory, there will be no need to attack us. Whether they like it or not, change is imminent and a new Nigeria will birth in February 25”, she said.

Ekong explained that irrespective of the show of intimidation, attacks, barricades, cash crunch and fuel scarcity, Nigerians came out in their numbers.

“Nigerians came out irrespective of fuel scarcity and cash crunch. What is happening in Lagos is handiwork of the Lagos State Government. He owes a responsibility to come out and condemn the incident. Property damaged runs into millions, government buses and private vehicles”, she said.

He said Peter Obi wrote to the Oba of Lagos of his intention to visit the palace but that he was told that the Oba is not available.

“He sent a letter requesting to see the Oba and they said the Oba is not available. Lagos is the 37th state visited. “Obi respects culture and has always paid homage to royal fathers in respect of tradition anywhere he visits”, Ekong said.

She assured Obidients that they started  the movement and that victory is assured, adding that leadership in Lagos lacks compassion.

“Until leadership is given to people who have compassion, this thuggery of a thing will continue. We wrote to all the security agencies ahead of time and yet this happened”, she said. Turing to the Obidients, he said,  “You have started this course and it is a movement ordained by God and nobody can stop you”.

She said the attack is so much on Labour Party, because the ruling party sees  Labour Party as a threat.

“They see Labour Party as a threat and they are scared of change that is imminent”, she said, stressing that Lagos belongs to everybody and not one person.

“Lagos is nobody’s land. If you live in Lagos, you are a Lagosian and you have the right to vote any candidate”, she said.

Ekong said that two of those who attacked Obidients in Ajeromi area of Lagos were arrested by the police yesterday but that he is not sure if they are still with the police but threatened to go to court to see to it that those who carryout such attacks do not go scot-free.
