LAGOS, Nigeria – Major labour unions in Nigeria have pledged their total support for the indefinite strike called by the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC)  and the Trade Union Congress, TUC to protest recent increment in the Pump Price of Petrol,  electricity tariff and others.

The unions coming out in solidarity with NLC to withdraw their services include Nigerian Union of Railways Workers, NURW, National Union of Civil Engineering Construction Furniture and Wood Workers, NUCECFWW, National Union of Printing, Publishing & Paper Products Workers, NUPP&PPW, Radio Television Theatre and Arts Worker Union of Nigeria, RAFFAWU, National Union of Air Transport Employers, NUATE, National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, Air Transport  Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professional, ANAP, Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PSAN, National Association of  Academic Technologists, NAAT, National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic among others.

Others are Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational And Associated Institutions, NASUEAAI, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic, SSANP and the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFE.

The indefinite strike called by NLC and TUC hopes to pressurise government to stop importation of Petroleum products, reduction in the cost of governance to save the masses from poverty and hunger and push government to reverse increment in electricity tariff and  Value Added Tax among others.
