LAGOS, Nigeria – The daughter of late Ken Saro-Wiwa of President, Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People Noo has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to exonerate his late father and eight others hanged by the late military dictator, Sani Abacha.
Her late father Kenule Beeson Wiwa was killed November 10, 1995 at the age of 54 during the regime of Nigeria’s most brutal Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
Born October 10, 1941, the only offence Ken Saro-Wiwa committed was his non-violent campaign against environmental degradation of the land and water of Ogoniland by the multinational, Royal Dutch Shell.
He criticized government for failing to make the oil companies comply with enforcement of environmental regulations.
He and eight others were hanged by the late Sani Abacha , an execution that provoked international outrage and sanctions on Nigeria.
Speaking on that dark day, Noo Ken Saro-Wiwa said today makes it 27 years since her dear father was murdered extrajudicially by the Nigerian military government for campaigning against oil pollution in the Niger delta.
“I again ask president @MBuhari to please exonerate the Ogoni 9, for the sake of all Nigerians #kensarowiwa”, she wrote, adding “ Please exonerate the Ogoni 9 for the sake of all Nigerians’
“27 yrs ago today my father, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and 8 colleagues were judicially murdered by the Nigerian military govt for campaigning against oil pollution in the Niger Delta. I again ask president @MBuhari to please exonerate the Ogoni 9, for the sake of all Nigerians #kensarowiwa”, she said.
