WASHINGTON – Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has advised President Bola Tinubu not to go to war with Niger, insisting that Nigeriens and Nigerians are brothers and that there is no need for such a war.
According to Kalu, instead of going to war, ECOWAS should ask the military junta about concrete plans to return to democracy, since they are saying that the ousted president Mohamed Bazoum has resigned. “It is their internal affairs and they should be allowed to deal with it internally”, Kalu said.
Kalu, who was speaking in Washington, said what has happened is a local affair and that Nigeriens should be left alone to deal with it locally, most especially now that the Senate has said no to proposal to go to war with Niger over their internal affairs.
He suggested that if it comes to the worst, Nigeria should pull out of the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS), stressing that those sponsoring the war are still hiding behind the scene.
He said that Americans have over 1000 troops on the ground, including France and that if they want they should go to war in Niger and not Nigerians.
Kalu said Tinubu should reject any offer from Americans that they will give him money to go to war with Niger, warning that Nigeria does not know who will join the war when it starts and that Nigerian could also be invaded by foreign forces as a result of the war, which could affect mineral resources lining the border with Niger.
