Justice for Giovanny: Five Sentenced to Life Imprisonment After Savage London Alleyway Ambush

By Emmanuel Thomas l Wednesday, May 20.26

LONDON — Five men have been sentenced to a combined total of 107 years in prison at the Old Bailey today for the savage and unprovoked murder of a 21-year-old Giovanny Rendon Bedoya in South London.

The sentencing on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, concludes a grueling legal saga following the fatal stabbing of Giovanny Rendon Bedoya in Walworth on 14 April 2025.

The five defendants were all previously convicted of murder on 14 April 2026, following an intensive 11-week trial.

The Sentences Handed Down at the Old Bailey
The court handed down life sentences to all five individuals involved in the fatal pack attack, establishing significant minimum terms before they can be considered for parole:

Joseph Jimenez, 22, of no fixed address, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years.

Christian Batista Gonzalez, 22, of Moyers Road, E10, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years.

Angel Gonzalez Angulo, 19, of Camberwell Church Street, SE5, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.

Bryan Villada Hernandez, 20, of Langdale Close, SE17, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.

Zozoro Mohamed Olivier Boizo, 21, of Lorrimore Square, SE17, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.

A Savage and Calculated Ambush
The horrific chain of events began on the evening of Monday, 14 April 2025.

At approximately 21:16hrs, Metropolitan Police officers were scrambled to reports of a large-scale brawl involving knives near Hillingdon Street and Langdale Close in Walworth.

Upon arrival, emergency services discovered Giovanny Rendon Bedoya cornered behind a row of residential flats on Hillingdon Street. He was suffering from catastrophic, multiple stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 22:07hrs.

A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as multiple sharp-force injuries.

Detectives quickly established that Giovanny had been ruthlessly hunted through a nearby alleyway before being trapped by the five defendants and subjected to a sustained, frenzied attack.

The Complex Multi-Jurisdictional Investigation
Bringing the five killers to justice required an exhaustive and meticulously detailed operation by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Detectives painstakingly reviewed over 1,500 hours of CCTV footage to stitch together the movements of the suspects before, during, and after the murder.

Bryan Villada Hernandez was arrested directly at the scene on the night of the attack. Forensic analysis later found the victim’s blood smeared across his tracksuit and coat.

Investigators also uncovered incriminating text messages on Hernandez’s mobile phone discussing the destruction of evidence and panic regarding police presence.

The CCTV footage proved vital, capturing the defendants fleeing to a nearby squat on Langdale Close. Further footage showed Angulo changing his clothes and carrying a bin bag containing what prosecutors proved were blood-stained garments and weapons. Angulo and Boizo then fled the scene in a taxi.

As the gang scattered to evade justice, a massive manhunt ensued:
Joseph Jimenez was tracked down and arrested a week later in Chichester on 21 April 2025.

Angel Gonzalez Angulo and Zozoro Boizo were arrested in London on 23 April and 2 May respectively.

Christian Batista Gonzalez successfully fled the United Kingdom entirely, triggering an international search. He was eventually captured near Barcelona, Spain, on 19 May 2025, and extradited back to London to face trial.

’My Son Was Innocent’
In a profoundly moving victim impact statement read to the court, Giovanny’s grieving mother emphasized that her son was an entirely innocent bystander who had no connection to the escalating violence in the area that night.

”I want the world to know that my son was innocent,” she said. “He had no part in any of the earlier events that evening. He was not fighting with anyone. He came out of his address and within seconds, was met with violence.

He was not carrying a weapon.”
Living abroad and unable to speak English, she described the agonizing vulnerability of navigating the tragedy from afar. “Every time my phone has rung from an overseas number, my heart skipped a beat… in fear of hearing more bad news.”

She expressed her deep gratitude to the Metropolitan Police family liaison officers, adding, “My life will not be long enough for me to be able to thank you.”

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who led the investigation, praised the courage of both the victim’s family and the local Walworth community.

”Today’s sentences show that those who commit vicious and brutal attacks will face significant, life-altering consequences,” DCI Blackburn said. “The group acted together during a sustained and extremely violent attack, chasing and killing Giovanny, showing brutality and reckless violence.”

”The group acted with no thought to what others would see or hear and I am truly grateful for all those who came forward and gave their harrowing accounts,” she added, reaffirming the Met’s commitment to pulling dangerous offenders off London’s streets.
