AWKA, Nigeria – The Joseph Onuorah Foundation (Deme Deme), in collaboration with the Ndiowu Town Union (NTU), Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has officially unveiled the Ndiowu Sports Fiesta 2025 a week-long community sporting festival aimed at fostering unity, promoting youth development, and celebrating the spirit of healthy competition.
The event is scheduled to take place from December 24th to 31st, 2025, at the Community Secondary School, Ndiowu, beginning daily at 2:00 PM.
The Ndiowu Sports Fiesta is conceived as a grassroots initiative to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and youth empowerment among Ndiowu indigenes both at home and in the diaspora. It aims to rekindle communal bonds and provide a festive platform where values such as discipline, excellence, and collaboration are celebrated through sporting activities.
According to the organizers, the fiesta will feature a variety of events, including athletics (female-only), veterans’ football matches, and the main inter-village football tournament, which will involve all the villages that make up Ndiowu. These events are expected to offer exhilarating moments of competition, pride, and cultural solidarity.
Participants in the tournament will compete for significant cash prizes and medals:Gold – ₦1.5 million ,Silver – ₦1 million and Bronze – ₦500,000
In addition to the team prizes, several individual honors will be awarded, including:Highest Goalscorer,Most Valuable Player (MVP),Best Goalkeeper,Best Referee and Other merit awards recognizing outstanding contributions and exemplary sportsmanship
Speaking during a press briefing in Awka on Thursday, the founder of the Joseph Onuorah Foundation, Dr. Joseph Chimezie Onuorah (Deme Deme Na Orumba), described the event as more than just a sporting competition.
He stated that its broader purpose as a platform for youth engagement, social cohesion, and community development.
“Through sports, we can inspire our young people to remain active, united, and focused on excellence. Ndiowu has a rich legacy of talent and resilience, and this fiesta is our way of honoring and nurturing that spirit,” — Dr. Onuorah stated.
The Joseph Onuorah Foundation, a non-profit organization, has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, social welfare, and economic empowerment across Anambra State and beyond. The upcoming Ndiowu Sports Fiesta stands as yet another demonstration of the Foundation’s commitment to giving back and championing positive social values.
The Ndiowu Town Union, co-organizers of the event, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the fiesta’s potential to add vibrancy to the festive season while enhancing inter-village unity.
The NTU President lauded the Foundation’s consistent efforts in supporting Ndiowu’s youth through various impactful programs.
The event is expected to attract Ndiowu indigenes from across Nigeria and the diaspora, as well as traditional leaders, sports enthusiasts, and community well-wishers. It will be a celebration of local talent, heritage, and collective aspiration.
“This is not just an event, but a celebration of who we are as a people — resilient, talented, and united,” Dr. Onuorah reaffirmed.
