President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday voted the sum of N14 billion for dry season farming in Nigeria. Jonathan made the pledged while launching Dry Season Farming project in Abuja, Nigeria.

He said that N9 billion was devoted to dry season farming last year adding that the amount will be increased next year if more interest is shown by farmers in dry season farming project which incorporates rice, sorghum, maize and others.

He thanked the National Assembly for going ahead to turn what was initiated as a mere policy into an act by promising to make a law to sustain dry season farming in Nigeria. He said that government will continue to work with farmers in order to create wealth instead of just alleviating poverty.

He prides his government as the first in Africa to lunch mobile pulse for farmers adding that today farmers now receive fertilizers directly unlike in the past when the products are adulterated with sand and other items and sometimes fails to get into the hands of farmers.

He thanked the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Akinwunmi Adesina for bringing about a revolution in agriculture. He added that government was about to cushion effects of flood few years back on the nation by ordering release of grains from the nation’s strategic gain reserves and that more silos will be built across the nation to boost the capacity to store food in Nigeria.
