Gulak who spoke on channels said he had on several occasion challenged Governor Babangida Aliyu who made the allegations to produce the document adding that the governor has failed to produce the purported agreement until date. He said the president is empowered by the constitution to present himself for election in 2015 unless he decides not to adding that zoning in PDP is done such that if the President is from South, the Vice President has to be from the North and “If the President is from the South, the chairman of the party has to be from the North”, he said.
Gulak explained that it is unacceptable for the aggrieved governors to demand that the national Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur should step down and that President Goodluck Jonathan should not run for election in 2015 and order the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to probe them.
He said that the chairman was validly elected and okayed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that just as there are processes for election, so there are processes for removal and that those processes must be properly followed.
According to him, Tukur was one of the founding fathers of PDP and in fact paid the house rent for the headquarters of the party. He explained that though there were some disagreements, the party then led by Dr. Alex Ekwueme exonerated him. “Those making these allegations should go back to the records and they will see that Bamanga Tukur was never expelled from the party”, he said.
He explained that leaders of the party including the elders are discussing, stressing that besides Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa and Dr.Raji Kwanso of Kano state, all the other PDP governors in the faction were not there when the party was formed but that they were drafted at some stage into the party and that they are indeed indebted to the party.
“ So I believe they should realized that they are really indebted to PDP and the best way to pay this debt is to Protect PDP and not to tear the party apart”, he said and challenged the breakaway group to retrace their steps so as to join hands to rebuild the nation.
