JERUSALEM – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has formally renewed its active enforcement of the Gaza ceasefire, initiating a series of targeted strikes on dozens of infrastructure sites and personnel following confirmed violations by Hamas.
The renewed policy was implemented in direct response to a directive from the political echelon and comes after a prior series of defensive actions.
According to an IDF statement released earlier today, recent operations successfully struck over 30 terrorists holding command positions within the various terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip.
The high-value operation was conducted jointly by the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (ISA), focusing on disrupting the command and control capabilities of the groups responsible for the recent breaches of quiet.
These strikes are meant to signal a clear policy shift, moving from a passive observation of the ceasefire to a proactive posture of enforcement.
The military emphasized that while these operations mark a firm response to aggression, the IDF remains committed to the standing ceasefire agreement.
However, the statement concluded with an unambiguous warning: “The IDF will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and will respond firmly to any violation of it.”
The action highlights the fragile nature of the security situation on the Gaza border, where short periods of calm are frequently interrupted by sporadic attacks originating from the enclave, often leading to immediate and decisive Israeli retaliation aimed at restoring deterrence.
The enforcement action is situated within the context of the tenuous ceasefire agreement, typically brokered by Egyptian and Qatari mediators, that followed the most recent major confrontation between Israel and the terrorist groups in Gaza.
These agreements are inherently unstable, often requiring tacit compliance rather than formal, binding commitments from all sides. Israel views the ceasefire as conditional upon complete quiet, meaning any rocket fire, border infiltration attempts, or the launching of incendiary devices constitutes a direct violation.
