GAZA, Palestine – The Israeli Defence Forces, IDF has increased the tally of journalists it has killed in since October 7th, 2023 by one. The latest journalist killed was Yahya Barzaq. He was killed when the IDF rained bombs on Deir al-Balah in Central Gaza.
Yahya Barzaq’s death contributes to what press freedom organizations describe as an unprecedented toll on media workers.
Deir al-Balah, in Central Gaza, like other areas of the Strip, has seen heavy Israeli bombardment, making it one of the deadliest zones for journalists.
Media monitors have stated that the number of journalists and media workers killed in Gaza since the war began has exceeded two hundred, making this conflict the most lethal for the press in modern history.
The sustained attacks, which often target residential areas, have been repeatedly condemned by international bodies and press advocates who call for the protection of journalists as non-combatants and for independent investigations into their deaths.
