GAZA The Israeli Defence Forces, IDF has explained the rationale for invading the Al Shifa Hospital where patients and displaced people are taking shelter in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, Spokesman for the IDF, Mr. Daniel Hagari said the agency invaded the hospital following intelligence that the Head of Operations Directorate of Hamas Internal Security, Fayeq  Al-Mabhouh was in the hospital, adding that he was eliminated during the operation.

“Following IDF and ISA intelligence indicating the presence of senior Hamas terrorists in the Shifa hospital, IDF and ISA forces conducting precise operational activity in the compound eliminated Faiq Mabhouh, head of the Operations Directorate of Hamas’ Internal Security”. 

He Mabhouh was also responsible for coordination of Hamas terrorist activities in the Gaza Strip.

“Faiq Mabhouh was eliminated in an encounter with the troops while armed and hiding in a compound at the Shifa hospital, from which he operated and advanced terrorist activity”, the IDF said, adding that numerous weapons were located in the room adjacent to where he was eliminated.

The IDF and ISA are continuing to conduct precise operational activity to thwart terrorism in the area of the Shifa hospital. 

“Over the past few hours, the troops identified terrorist fire toward them from a number of hospital buildings. The forces engaged the terrorists and identified several hits”, he said.

Al-Mabhouh was a leading officer in the security apparatus of the Gaza Strip and most recently was responsible for securing and introduction of humanitarian aid to the Northern Gaza Strip after months of starvation.
