JERUSALEM – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has ordered a significant increase in its operational readiness, moving to the highest alert level across all arenas for the duration of the upcoming Sukkot holiday.

The directive was issued this morning following a comprehensive situational assessment led by the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, with members of the General Staff Forum.

Defensive Posture Takes Priority
The primary instruction emanating from the meeting is that the defensive effort will be the main focus of the IDF until the conclusion of the holiday period.

This heightened posture is designed to ensure maximum security for Israeli citizens celebrating the festive period.

In parallel with the elevated alert, LTG Zamir issued several key directives to all units:
Pre-Holiday Exercises: All units must immediately conduct exercises, including command post simulations and defensive position-related briefings, prior to the start of the holiday.

Mission Focus and Reinforcements: Troops are to focus sharply on their primary missions, with a particular emphasis on integrating reinforcements seamlessly across all military arenas.

Air Force on High Alert: The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has been instructed to maintain rapid readiness and a high alert for both defensive and offensive operations, with the Gaza Strip highlighted as an area of particular emphasis.

Enhanced Security Protocols: Approval and security procedures for public events and festivals taking place during Sukkot will be significantly reinforced.
Readiness for Peace and Security
Despite the significant escalation in readiness, the Chief of the General Staff stressed that the move does not indicate a change in the multi-arena situational assessment.

Rather, the directives are a proactive measure to ensure the security establishment is optimally prepared.
LTG Zamir also clarified key security directives for all border areas, security zones, and identified points of vulnerability.

In a concluding statement, LTG Zamir reassured the public, emphasizing the IDF’s commitment to its mission:
”We are at constant readiness, prepared across all arenas for defense and offense,” LTG Zamir remarked.

“We continue our mission to enable all Israelis to mark the Sukkot holiday in peace and security.”

The deployment and high alert status are expected to remain in effect until the end of the week-long holiday, reflecting the military’s commitment to preempting any potential threats during a period when families often travel and congregate.
