An Iranian naval vessel has made an emergency docking in Sri Lanka tonight following a mechanical failure—just as Tehran launched a massive missile strike against Israel.

The IRIS Bushehr was forced to disembark 208 personnel at the Port of Colombo after breaking down near the island’s maritime boundary.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake moved quickly to calm international nerves, confirming the vessel would be towed to Trincomalee Port for repairs.

In a televised address, President Dissanayake shut down social media rumors that 300 children were aboard the military craft, dismissing the claims as “entirely false.”

While the Bushehr sat idle in port, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) in Tehran announced they had unleashed a “real hell” on Israel.

In a statement titled Announcement No. 21, Iran confirmed it launched a wave of Khorramshahr 4 missiles—each carrying a massive one-ton warhead—targeting:

The Israeli Air Force’s Squadron 27 base.
The IRGC claimed their strategic missiles and “attack drones” successfully punched through “seven layers” of air defenses, warning that they have fundamentally “changed the equation of war.”

The rhetoric didn’t stop at Israel. The IRGC issued a chilling warning to American forces in the region, claiming US soldiers were “fleeing” to hotels in Gulf countries to hide.

”The brave IRGC soldiers are lying in ambush to hunt the invading American army,” the statement read. “We will not let them go.”

Despite the escalating violence in the Middle East, President Dissanayake insisted Sri Lanka would remain strictly neutral. He emphasized that the island’s land, sea, and airspace would not be used by any nation to “support or harm” another.

Background: A Region on the Brink
The arrival of the IRIS Bushehr in Sri Lanka comes at a moment of extreme geopolitical tension.

The Vessel: The IRIS Bushehr is a logistics and support vessel. Its presence in the Indian Ocean is part of Iran’s effort to project naval power far beyond the Persian Gulf.

The Khorramshahr 4 (also known as Kheibar) is one of Iran’s most advanced liquid-fueled ballistic missiles, with a range of roughly 2,000km, putting the entire Middle East within reach.

The Conflict: “Operation True Promise 4” marks the latest escalation in a direct confrontation between Iran and Israel that has moved from a “shadow war” to open, large-scale missile exchanges.

Strategically located in the center of the Indian Ocean’s shipping lanes, Sri Lanka often finds itself caught between the interests of global powers like the US, China, and Iran.
