AWKA, Anambra, Nigeria – Chairman , Inter- Party Advisory Council IPAC, Anamnra State chapter Chief Uche Ugwuoji has commended the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the deregistration of 74 political parties by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ugwuoji who spoke with to our reporter in Awka Anambra state on Friday ,while reacting to the judgment of supreme Court said the apex court judgment was commendable and clear on the constitution and electoral law of the country.
Ugwuoji who also is the chairman of Anambra state chapter of Zenith Labour party (ZLP) said , they are happy about the judgment ,not necessarily because some parties were deregistered but because the Supreme Court was able to overrule other judgments .
“The judgment is a landmark judgment and that is what we have been waiting and now that the supreme Court has cleared the air ,we are happy .We are happy that the parallel judgments by the lowers court have been overruled by the supreme Court .
By the supreme Court judgment INEC was right in deregistering those parties that could not win a seat in the last election. “We are happy by the judgment and we commend the apex court for the landmark judgment ” he said .
He said that with the judgment only 18 political parties would be eligible to participate in the Anambra state 2021 governorship election, Ugwuoji said that ,the IPAC would do every thing possible to ensure that political parties in the state conduct free and fair primaries to select who fly their tickets at the November 6 governorship election .
“We are planning on how to make sure that parties for the November ,6 election conduct credible primaries ” he said .
