November 8, 2014 -Lagos State Chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) yesterday said that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has failed in the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

The party said it came to that conclusion after observing the exercise in some of the eleven local governments. The party made the revelation at a press conference addressed by national leader of the party, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chairman of APC, Lagos State, Otunba Henry Ajomale and other members of the party in Lagos.

Speaking at the occasion, Tinubu said the exercise has failed and that the best thing is to start all over again and that what has happened is nothing but collusion between INEC and the Federal Government to rig election in Lagos State.

“This is a colossal failure and it has eroded my confidence in INEC to be able to midwife a successful 2015 election”, Tinubu said.

Tinubu who queried why INEC reduced the number of registered voters in Lagos to 4.8 challenged the electoral body to publish the names of those who took part in double registration, adding that INEC itself has no right to disqualify anybody on that basis since it is not the court of law.

“INEC must publish names of close to 2 million voters excluded voters, INEC is not the court of law, you cannot exclude Nigerians from exercising their franchise. You cannot automatically without the court of law disqualify them. If you fail to publish and give reason you are also violating their constitutional rights.

“To me this exercise has failed and we reconsider it as a dry run, a rigging exercise, INEC has colluded with the Presidency, they are closing party to rig the election from beginning to the end. If for four years you are not ready with PVC and few months to election PVC is not ready and you have not been able to start capturing those 18 years and you have 30 days minimum to display voter register before election how are we sure INEC is prepared”, he said.

Tinubu said he doubts if INEC will be able to satisfy the electoral act 30 days to election, adding that what has happened is nothing but deliberate collusion. “ It is inexcusable”, he said.

Tinubu said that an additional day to the exercise is not enough and that the party will report what has happened to national arm and that it will do all it takes to protect the rights of residents of Lagos State to vote in the 2015 elections.
