INEC DECLARES OSUN ELECTION INCONCLUSIVE, SAYS NO WINNER AS PDP LEADS

OSOGBO, Osun, Nigeria – The Independent National Election (INEC) has declared the governorship election in Osun State held on Saturday, September 22, 2014 inconclusive and consiquently declared no winner even as PDP was in clear lead after the results were officially declared by INEC. INEC Returning Officer, Joseph Adeola Foape said there was no clear winner based on electoral guidelines and that a new date will be fixed for run-off before a clear winner will be declared.




He said there are incidents in a number of polling units including ballot box snatching in some units, and inability of card reader to function in some units and over-voting while an electoral officer absconded in a unit. But that PDP is leading by 353 votes.

But PDP said it scored 254,698 votes while APC scored 254,345 votes.

“The difference bewteen the leading parties is 353 votes while votes in units were results were cancelled are 3,498 hence unfortunately, it is not possible for me the returning officer to declare anybody as a clear winner of this election of the first ballot”, Returning Officer, Professor Joseph Adeola Foape said.

Foape commended the people fo the state for being peaceful. “INEC will announce date for the run-off . As the returning officer Joseph Adeola Foape hereby declare this election inconclusive”, he said.

According to him, total votes cast are 720, 122, rejected votes were 47,846, while valid votes were 737, 965
