OWERRI, Imo, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has expressed concern over consistent attack on its facilities by arsonists.

INEC issued the statement following attack on its facility in Oru,  the second in one week, all in Imo state.

In a statement, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee,  Mr. Festus Okoye said the attack on Oru West Local Government Office in Imo State is the 7th since attack on INEC office started.

He said the attached which occurred at 4am on Sunday 4th December  destroyed INEC furniture and fittings in the conference room.

He said other critical facilities were not affected. He said that few days ago, on Thursday, December 1, 2022, INEC office in Orlu Local Government was equally attacked.

He said the systematic attacks on INEC offices bears consequences on the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

Okoye said the attention of the security agencies have been drawn to the Oru attack for investigation and prosecution.
