ABUJA, Nigeria – A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge and others from going ahead to impeach the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Gusau.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order, while ruling on an ex-parte motion brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the propriety of the impeachment.
Governor of the state, Bello Matawalle had defected to the All Progressive Congress(APC) with his supporters. But the Refusal of the deputy to join Matawalle in APC, brought in into a grand conspiracy, with the governor moving for his impeachment.
The PDP equally went to court to challenge transfer of its mandate to the APC. But ruling on the motion, challenging the impeachment, Justice Egwuatu granted an order restraining the Zamfara State House of Assembly from going ahead with the impeachment of the deputy governor and other members of the house who have refused to defect.
The Zamfara State House of Assembly had, earlier this month summoned the Deputy Governor Gusau to appear on July 27 over a political rally he (Gusau) he held in the state, shortly after the defection of the governor.
