May 27, 2015 – Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji today held a valedictory meeting with members of staff where he acknowledged their loyalty, dedication to duty and for upholding high standard of performance during the period.
He apologized to staff of the assembly for any wrong doing while performing his duty as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Ikuforiji who started by saying “It’s been a wonderful time” expressed appreciation over the maximum co-operation he got from the staff in the past 10 years as speaker. “This is the best relationships I have had in my 56 years of existence”, he said.
The speaker explained that his love for the house and legislature is immeasurable. “As I move on, I will always have the interest of the legislature in my heart”.
Ikuforiji said that though he is 56, he is not tired and still has a lot to give. “ I am going to be a learned colleague as I believe very much in the legislature”.
The Speaker who recalled his experience during the 7th Assembly said it started well.
It’s been a long journey” from the time when there wasn’t enough seats for Lawmakers to the stage where seats were reserved for lawmakers, to the stage when we placed files under our arm-pits and chased the governor about for an approval which is now different.
“While giving insight into who succeeds him, he said ‘we didn’t have the trouble of who succeeds Ikuforiji before the election but the almighty smiled at us because he knows tomorrow”.
He advised the next speaker to take the entire House as his own, adding that the aspirants are looking at the glamour not the other side of the position. “As mortals there is no way you can please everyone. The more you try, the less you achieve”. If your case has been improperly handled, I am sorry”.
Ikuforiji concluded that a happy workforce is a productive work force. “I must warn you about informing people of our activities outside our fence. The Lagos Assembly will continue to maintain its number 1 status through you.
The Deputy Speaker Hon. Kolawole Taiwo who also addressed the staff, appreciated their efforts and co-operation adding that he was going to miss his office and that of the clerk where he could do anything, drink garri, and meet people and so on.
