IKORODU, Lagos, Nigeria – Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun and the Executive Director of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Mr. Adetokun Mumuni have been earmarked to speak on corruption at the B.O Benson (SAN) annual lecture organised by the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA Ikorodu branch, Lagos.
The theme of this year’s annual lecture is ‘ Combating Corruption In A Recession: The Transformative Role of the Bar and Bench’. Professor Fagbohun will delivered the keynote lecture, while Mr Mumuni will lead other discussants to x-ray the role of the Bar and Bench in tackling corruption in Nigeria.
The occasion will be chaired by Retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice George Oguntade.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Chairman of NBA, Ikorodu Branch, Mr. Levi Adikwaone said other events slated for the law week includes a visitation to Home of God’s Grace Orphanage; a continuing legal education for lawyers in the branch; Aerobics/ Variety Evening; Church/ Mosque Service and Dinner and Award Night.
Adikwaone said the choice of the topic for the lecture ‘Combating Corruption In A Recession: The Transformative Role of the Bar and Bench’, was necessitated by the need to assess how effective lawyers and judges at all levels of court have either encourage or discourage the fight against corruption.
“This topic was selected after much deliberation with council of elders of the branch. We believe this is the time to look inward and assess ourselves as lawyer whether we are doing well or not in terms of fighting corruption at this recession period. We have gather very capable persons for the lecture and we believe they will do justice to the topic,” he said.
