JERUSALEM – A SHOCKING security breach has rocked the Israeli military after FIVE of its own soldiers were among a gang of a dozen people arrested for smuggling deadly RPG rockets and assault rifles from enemy Syria.

The haul seized by Israeli intelligence agents was not just small arms, but included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers—the type of high-velocity weapon used to take out tanks and fortified positions.
Also recovered was a stockpile of modern assault rifles and sophisticated high-tech gear, suggesting the group was plotting a large-scale, potentially catastrophic, operation within Israel’s borders.

The border area with Syria and Lebanon is already one of the most tense regions in the Middle East.
For weapons of this calibre to be moved across it by uniformed Israeli personnel is seen as a catastrophic failure of internal security.
An IDF source said last night: “This is an unthinkable betrayal. These soldiers had a duty to protect the country, but stand accused of bringing deadly chaos right to our doorstep.”
All twelve suspects are facing serious charges, including espionage and weapons trafficking, which carry heavy prison sentences. The investigation is continuing to determine who was the ultimate buyer of the deadly arms and what their objective was
