It is very natural to expect those born into royal home to be accorded royal treatment hence many are bound to be suspicious when things turn the other way round. Prince Arinze has every reason to be angry and suspicious in the film, Mother’s Betrayal.

Though born into royalty, he is nevertheless treated with disdain by domestic staff based on orders from his father, King Odum.

Odum who is believed to be acting under a spell turns down efforts by Arinze’s mother, village elders and Prime Minister of the Kingdom to persuade him to soften his mind against Arinze who is his first son.

Things however went sour when Odum blessed Prince Caesar to step into his shoes while he is away for medical check-up. Hell is let loose in the kingdom as Caesar turns from a humble and reserve prince into a hawk.

Rated 18 by the National Film and Video Censors Board, Mother’s Betrayal comes with a good storyline but would definitely offend the viewer based on the way the story ended. Besides, there was wrong interpretation of camera shots by Uche Nancy and Okey Zubelu who produced and directed the film.

Are there lessons to learn from the film? Not really, except that spell cast secure to loyalty works only in the short run.
Professor Laz Ekwueme played King Odum, Dare Ogbeni played Prince Arinze, Walter Anga played Caesar while Chinyere Winfred played Maureen.
