BERLIN – President of the German Central Council of Jews c has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial judicial reforms during a meeting with him in Berlin on Thursday.

“I expressed my concern to the prime minister that his government is increasingly dividing Israeli society and is in the process of squandering trust in democratic Israel,” Schuster said.

But he also added “Jews in Germany and all over the world stand firmly by Israel’s side and want to continue to do so.”

Schuster met Netanyahu at a commemoration ceremony at the Holocaust Memorial Platform 17 at Grunewald station in the west of Berlin.

Netanyahu’s right-wing religious government has come under fire at home, as well as internationally, over his planned reforms which threaten to weaken the country’s independent judiciary.
