LAGOS, Nigeria –  The National Third Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Mandi Dimechi-Asagba is in eyes of the storm as suspected  land grabbers who allegedly secured a court judgement, invaded her resident at Ajao Estate,  Lagos State in a bid to take possession of her property.

Dimechi-Asagba was harassed by hoodlums allegedly hired by one Al-maruf Owonla who insisted on locking up the building and evicting  residents by force on the grounds that they are executing a court judgment.

The rowdy scenario happened in the presence of policemen deployed by the DPO of Ajao Estate Police Division to maintain law and order, who however acted contrary to the reason why they were deployed.

A human right activist, Biodun Kolawole, who witnessed the assault was not spared by the suspected hoodlums for protesting against the alleged illegal activities.

According to eyewitnesses, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, the policemen took sides with Al-maruf in their bid to evict residence  of the building. The incident which occurred at about 12:54 pm led to a commotion in the entire area for more than two hours.

Earlier, during the day, Justice Adeyinka Adeyemi of the Lagos State High Court had in a ruling nullified  application for execution filed by a purported Judgement creditor to take possession of the property  belonging to Kenneth Gbagi, former Minister of State for Justice.

Justice Adeyemi dismissed the application for lack of due diligence and advised the applicant to re-apply. After the ruling, the purported judgment creditor invaded the house of Dimechi-Asagba without a court sheriff to take possession, saying that the ruling is in their favour.

The hoodlums, led by Al-maruf Owonla, who came with three unregistered Sports Utility Vehicle armed with dangerous weapons stormed the street and created a panicky atmosphere.

The panicky atmosphere made the residents to seek the assistance of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ajao Estate who summoned parties and advised them to maintain status quo pending the production of the court ruling which Al-maruf relied on to forcefully take possession of the affected properties.
