ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Senate today ended the discrimination between holders of Higher National Diploma(HND) from polytechnics and colleges of education and holders of First degree from the universities.

The senate ended the discrimination by passing the Prohibition of Discrimination between First Degrees and Higher National Diplomas Bill, 2021.

The bill coded (SB.297) was read for the Third Time and  passed.

In passing the bill, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan congratulated the senate, noting the issue of discrimination between HND/BSC holders has been on the front burner for a very long time.

He described the bill as very important, noting it is one way of encouraging polytechnic graduates.

“Congratulations to the Senate. This particular issue has been in the front burner for a long time. I recall that in the @HouseNGR between 2003 and 2007, this was one Bill that was so important and it is a way of encouraging our Polytechnic graduates.

“This should not take away the kind of training they give but should be a motivation for our Polytechnic graduates”, Lawan said.
