NEWCASTLE UNITED stormed the new Hill Dickinson Stadium to hand Everton their heaviest defeat at their spectacular new home, with a sensational 4-1 thrashing on Saturday.
The Magpies, who had been struggling away from St James’ Park, ripped up the form book and the script for what was supposed to be a fortress atmosphere on the Mersey waterfront.
Instead, the Hill Dickinson Stadium became the stage for a stunning collapse, as Everton fans watched their side concede four goals at home for the first time since April 2023—ironically, also against Newcastle.
Fastest Goal Jolt Hits New Home
The brand-spanking-new, £800 million Hill Dickinson Stadium—hailed as a game-changer for the Toffees—was rocked inside the opening minute.
German defender Malick Thiaw netted the fastest goal of the Premier League season after just 55 seconds, heading home a corner to silence the vast crowd.
A blunder from former Sunderland stopper Jordan Pickford then saw Lewis Miley’s shot squirm through his grasp in the 25th minute, doubling the visitors’ lead.
The misery was complete on the stroke of half-time when Nick Woltemade delivered a sublime lob, making it 3-0 and prompting a chorus of boos at the shiny new ground, with some disgruntled supporters heading for the exits.
Fortress Fails as Thiaw Seals Double
The second half brought little respite for the home side and their manager, David Moyes. Just 13 minutes after the restart, Thiaw towered above the Everton defence to power home his second header of the evening, putting a fourth nail in the coffin and turning the Hill Dickinson Stadium into a theatre of dreams for the travelling Toon Army.
While Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall pulled back a late consolation goal for Everton, it was a dominant and essential first away win of the season for Eddie Howe’s men.
The result is a bitter pill for Everton, who only recently experienced the high of an away win against Manchester United.
But on a day when they were expected to shine at their state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium, they were instead dealt a humbling reality check by a rampant Newcastle side.
