Lagos, Nigeria, February 03, 2016 – An RT Bristow Helicopter with registration number No. N5BOJ has crashed into the Lagos Lagoon.
The helicopter according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA), was conveying 11 people believed to be oil and gas workers from Port Harcourt and crashed at 136, 70 Notical mile enroute Lagos.
Speaking on the incident, General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele said all 11 people on board have been rescued alive. He said the use of life jacket by the passengers on board also assisted in the rescue operation.
“All emergency responders were immediately activated, these includes 3 RRS Search and rescue Helicopters, Nigeria Navy, Airforce and others were deployed for the operation. The helicopter ditched inside the ocean, however 11 souls on board are alive, no casualty.
“The support of Agip, Mobile and Shell oil company in the provision of speed boat, while Bristol Helicopter company also provided landing boat for the evacuation of the survivals. The survivals are in adherence to the use of life jacket”, he said.
