PENNSYLVANIA – A Pennsylvania man is lucky to be alive after his cleaning session turned into a shocking surgical emergency—all thanks to his overzealous dog.

The man, who has not been named, was performing routine maintenance on his shotgun when the unbelievable happened.

He briefly laid the loaded firearm down on his bed, likely thinking it was safe for just a moment.

His beloved pet pooch, apparently eager for attention or just a good bounce, leaped onto the bed right next to the gun.

In a scene straight out of a bizarre cartoon, the dog’s paw or body weight was enough to engage the trigger mechanism.

The blast ripped through the room, hitting the startled owner directly in the thigh.

Despite the horrific and extremely painful wound, the man survived the incredible incident but required immediate medical attention.

He has reportedly undergone multiple, grueling surgeries to repair the damage caused by the unexpected canine firearm discharge.

Police have confirmed the incident was a freak accident.

Sources say the man’s only comment was reportedly a confused look at his dog, who was probably just happy to see him.

Gun Safety Fail: An Instant Lesson
While the tale is shocking, authorities are using the case as a stark reminder to treat all firearms as loaded and secure them properly, even during cleaning, to prevent pets—or curious kids—from causing a disaster.

Luckily for the owner, he’ll be back on his feet soon, though his dog may be getting a new nickname: ‘One-Shot’.
