ONITSHA, Anambra – A women group known as Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria has condemned the inhuman treatment melted to an Aguleri women in Anambra East local government area of Anambra state by a gang of mob.
A mob on Saturday beat and stripped a woman naked alleging that she killed her husband with an overdose sex in the community. In a statement signed by the National President of the group Hon. Mrs Nkiru Nwagbo made available to reporters, the women group noted that the only sin the woman committed is nothing but childlessness.
“Her sin is that she is childless. They alleged that she killed her husband and the community decided to bring him to public ridicule and dehumanization without recourse to her rights.
“This body wishes to state that we insist that the law must take it’s course and that the perpetrators must be brought to book” the group stated. The group also called on the Federation of Women Lawyers(FIDA) to take up this matter and rise up to defend and protect the right of their fellow woman.
The group expresses it’s appreciation to the Anmbra state police command for the arrest made so far and urge the command not to relent in efforts to bring the culprits to justice .
“It is also our prayers that the Traditional Ruler of Aguleri community, the Town Union executive must take measures to ensure protection of lives and rights of women in the town. We the members of this organization would stop at nothing to pursue this matter to its logical conclusion” the group said .
