ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – The National Grassroots Movement of Nigeria has endorsed the former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for president.
The National coordinator of the group Hon Mrs Ngozi Akaniru during the group National conference in Awka, Anambra State capital said they are appealing to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to come out and declare his intention to contest for president of the country.
According to her ,Nigerians are impatiently waiting for him to come out and rescue the country before she finally collapses. Mrs. Akaniru said that there are over 17 million members across the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Abuja .
She said that at their national conference in Awka over 2000 delegates were in attendance noting that the acceptance of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s candidacy across the country leaves no one in doubt.
In his speech,the National Secretary of the Grassroots movement Hon Akataobi Clement Zango ,thanked the group for turning out enmass and he assured them that, Nigerians especially the grassroots has decided to prevail on the former governor of Abia State to come out and contest for the president of Nigeria in 2023.
Akataobi who also is a director special duty of the group said , the governor has their support and loyalty any time any day. According to him, the group had garnered massive support from the North, West East and South for the senator if he presents himself to contest.
He vowed that if Senator Orji Uzor Kalu declares his interest to contest ,other presidential candidates from across the country would give him their support, due to his political antecedents and love for the unity of Nigeria.
He said the National Grassroots movement has over 17million followers across Nigeria, most of whom are between the 30 and 40years that are eligible voters.
“What we are asking our amiable Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is to just declare his interest” Nigerians are waiting for him and he is eminently qualified for the position” he said.
According to Akataobi Clement Zango, Kalu is the best person to occupy the position given his detribalised nature as a Pan Nigerian. He said that this is the time for Nigerians to look inwards and elect a person with true national character and orientation.
The National women leader,Dr Mercy Bello Abu, from River State said Nigerian women are desirous of a tested and trusted detribalized Nigerian who is capable of transforming the country .
She said Nigerians need a president who would be able to save Nigerian women from constant heart break, killings, kidnap, rape and others across the country .
“We are grateful to Nigeria’s women, across the thirty six States for their solidarity and support to the movement. I want to assure them that the movement would do everything within her reach to make sure Senator Orji Uzor Kalu declares as soon as possible and we will give him our vote” she said .
