A PREDATORY rapist who tried to flee the UK just hours after a sickening attack in London has been jailed.
Hassan Alsarout, 22, was sensationally cornered by detectives in a Coventry hideout—with a one-way ticket to Denmark booked for the very next day.
The Brazilian national, of no fixed address, pounced on his young victim in a secluded spot on Euston Road, Camden, during the early hours of October 9 last year.
In a desperate bid to cover his tracks, the coward immediately washed his clothes to destroy forensic evidence. He then bolted from the capital, sparking a frantic nationwide manhunt.
But the Met’s specialist rape units moved with “absolute urgency,” using CCTV and digital forensics to trace a phone call Alsarout made shortly after the assault.
Less than 24 hours after the attack, police swooped on the address in the West Midlands, catching him before he could reach the border.
Yesterday, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Alsarout was sentenced to five years and seven months behind bars. He had previously pleaded guilty to the charge in February.
The judge also ordered that he be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Most importantly, he will be deported from the UK the moment his sentence is served.
DCI Paul Ridley praised the victim’s “bravery and resilience,” adding:
“Our determined efforts stopped him fleeing the United Kingdom and ensured he was brought to justice. This case shows our tireless efforts to tackle violence against women and girls.”
The conviction comes as the Met Police revealed that charge rates for rape have more than tripled following a massive overhaul in officer training.
Around 23,000 staff have been put through a “victim-centred” program designed to nail dangerous offenders faster than ever before.
