BOSNIA – Germany clinched victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina in a Davis Cup play-off tie despite the absence of Olympic champion Alexander Zverev and will continue playing in the top tier World Group I next year.

Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz won the doubles 6-4, 6-2 against Damir Dzumhur and Mirza Basic to give the Germans an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-rubber tie in Mostar on Sunday.

Germany had led 2-0 overnight from straight-set victories by Daniel Altmaier and Yannick Hanfmann.

The victory means that Germany will play a group stage qualifier in February 2024. They had missed the group stage this term after losing their qualifier at home against Switzerland.
Bosnia-Herzegovina remain in World Group II after missing promotion.

Zverev was not in Mostar owing to thigh muscle problems sustained in his recent US Open quarter-final defeat against Carlos Alcaraz. Germany have not won the prestigious team event since lifting the trophy for a third time in 1993.
