BERLIN – Germany’s powerful IG Metall trade union on Sunday mobilised members working at Vestas wind turbines in Germany on strike for this coming week.
“We’re raising the pressure,” IG Metall chief negotiator Martin Bitter said. The union, Germany’s largest with more than 2 million members, is pushing for regular pay rises, special payments and reduced hours for senior staff to be part of working conditions at the Danish company.
IG Metall is planning actions at various locations, including rallies on Monday at Husum in north-western Germany and at Thalfang in the south-west.
Vestas workers from across Germany have been called to a rally at Vestas’ German headquarters in Hamburg on Thursday. Vestas Germany has about 1,700 staff.
IG Metall is seeking recognition from the company, which prefers to deal with its works council on pay and conditions.
