MECKLENBURG-WESTERN POMERANIA – A hunter died in Germany’s north-eastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the 60-year-old called his wife on Saturday evening and told her that he had injured himself.

The police added that because his exact location was unclear, the authorities launched a search operation to find him.

A sweep of the area by the rescue services, volunteer fire brigade workers and police with a helicopter finally located the man’s lifeless body at the edge of a field.

Police said rescuers tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.
